In this chapter, Richard's devotion to his dauɡhter gets sorely tested as she urges him to "rely on her" during a midnight walk, whatever that might mean. The next day, he indirectly confesses his confusion to Mortelli and nearly has a breakdown when the unsuspecting detective gives a fairly interpretation. On top of that, a mysterious lawman arrives at the diner early in the morning with a lucrative offer to buy the place - and even more food for thought.
